When is the last time you left home without makeup? For me, it's often routine to put on a little corrector and concealer, powder, eyeliner, mascara, and maybe eyeshow, blush, and lipstick, before heading out for the day. It's the rare occasion that I just wash my face, moisturize, and go. Well, recently, not only did I do just that, but I headed straight to Movode photography studio to sit for some complimentary portraits. Makeup free. Yes, you read that right. I had some portraits done wearing absolutely no makeup. I mean, who does that? Well, thanks to Movode, many women are. Movode believes that beauty is the ability to be comfortable with who you are, so they created the #BeautifulAsYouAre campaign to push the boundaries of photography and change the perception of beauty.
It was actually pretty refreshing to leave home make-up free for this portrait session. When I arrived to the studio, Mahmoud (the photographer) and Christina (the studio manager) were very welcoming and we immediately started shooting with what I had on. They had me bring 3-4 outfits to get a little variety in the shots so I had several wardrobe changes (actually I only changed my top since only my upper body was being shot). Mahmoud and Christina were both very involved in the shoot with directing me and it made the shoot super easy and fun. And they both would get excited when they got an amazing shot, which only encouraged me and made me feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Overall, it took about an hour including my 3 quick shirt changes. And when I went back to see the final product and to select my favorite 3, I was amazed with what I saw.
If you are looking for new professional headshots or want new family portraits, I highly recommend this team at Movode. If they can take such great photos with no makeup, then you know the quality of their work is top-notch. If you reach out to them, let them know that I sent you!
Since the no makeup movement is getting a lot of attention these days, what are you thoughts on it? Do you ever have makeup-free days?
*The studio session and digital portraits were provided free of charge, but as always, the above opinions are my own.
