What can I say about Charlotte? I resisted moving here from Atlanta for 6 months and instead commuted each week to work. It took quite some time to let Atlanta go and to give Charlotte a real chance. But eventually, I did and I began to like it. But now, it's time to move on. It's been a great 5+ years here. I've met some great people and had some amazing opportunities here in Charlotte. But sometimes you get to a point where you know it's time to move on.
I'd considered moving for a couple of years. I thought about moving back to Atlanta. I thought about moving to New York. But it wasn't until recently that everything felt right to move. No hesitations. It was time for a change and I truly felt like my opportunity was just around the corner. I knew that things would work out somehow.
So many times over the last few years, I kept wondering why my opportunity to move hadn't happened yet. Then a few days before I got not one, but two, opportunities (in different cities), I listened to Cari Champion's podcast, Be Honest with Cari Champion, and she had retired NFL player and future Hall of Famer Ed Reed on the show. He talked about how after he left his long-time team, the Baltimore Ravens and eventually ended up with the Houston Texans, people expected him to perform at the same level and have the same big on-field impact that he had in Baltimore. But he said that that did not happen, because that was not his purpose there. And just like that, something went off in my head that said that things hadn't happened for me to move yet because there was still a purpose for me being in Charlotte. And I thought back to how in the last few months how I had helped 3 people in particular make big moves in their careers. That was why I was still here. And suddenly, I was okay with where I was and knew that I had to trust God's timing and His plan. And wouldn't you know, a few days later a big change happened for me, too. I truly believe that once I learned the lesson and acknowledged that His plans are bigger and better than mine, then He said, "Ok, now it's time." Hashtag deep.
So…I know you're thinking, "TELL US WHERE YOU'RE GOING ALREADY!" Well, I received a job opportunity in NEW YORK CITY! But I felt that the second job opportunity that I received was perfect and where I needed to be and that job is in WASHINGTON, D.C.!! *throws confetti* Yep, I'm moving back to DC! (You might or might not know that I lived in the Baltimore/DC area for about 4 years 7 or 8 years ago.)
You might have noticed that I've been blogging a little less frequently lately. Well, that's because I've been trying to get all of this decided and I've been making plans for the move and preparing for the new job. I've been holding on to this information for over a month and I couldn't wait to share it with you all! If you follow me on Instagram (BlitzAndGlam), you might have noticed that I've been posting a lot of shots of Charlotte lately. I've been trying to capture the beauty of this city that I've called home for over 5 years. Charlotte truly is a nice and beautiful city and I'll miss many people and many things about this city.
I will try my best to not be absent from the blog during the move and transition to the new job. I actually hope to blog more as I get refamiliar with the area and I might even start doing more journal blogging one or twice a week. So, stay tuned here and follow along on Twitter and Instagram (click on the icons on the right side of the blog to follow). DC, here I come!
