My 17 Favorite Podcasts

In my recent What's In My Bag post I shared that I keep my iPod nano in my handbag so I can listen to it at work.  It keeps me going through the work day.  For real.  I mostly listen to podcasts so I thought that I would share my favorite podcasts with you in no particular order.  Please leave a comment below if you listen to any of these or if you want to suggest a podcast that I should listen to.  I'm always looking for good podcasts to add to my list, so suggestions are welcome!

  1. The Heidi & Frank Show.  This is a daily morning radio show out of LA.  If you've seen the entertainment TV show Dish Nation, then you might recognize them.  I love them, because their sense of humor is much like my own and I'm often caught cracking up at work while listening to their show.
  2. His & Hers.  This is an ESPN podcast, but you don't have to be a sports-lover to like it.  They usually set up the discussion with something that happened in sports as a way to launch into a non-sports-related topic.  It's really like hanging out with your best friends.
  3. The Right Reasons.  This is where I get my reality TV show fix.  They discuss many of my favorite reality shows, and in fact, got their podcast name from an episode of The Bachelorette.
  4. Serial.  There's a reason that this podcast was #1 on the iTunes charts since the beginning a few months ago.  This podcast is so good.  The first season was a deep-dive into a Baltimore case of a murdered teen and her convicted ex-boyfriend.  Each episode left me with enough reasonable doubt to wonder how any jury ever convicted Adnan of murder.  If you don't listen to this podcats already, then start with episode 1 and work your way to the last episode of Season 1.  I'm anxiously awaiting the start of Season 2.
  5. The B.S. Report with Bill Simmons.  This is another ESPN podcast.  I'll admit that I don't listen to every episode.  I mostly listen during football season to hear Bill and Cousin Sal's opinions on each week's matchups and to try to guess the lines for each game.  Bill is also into pop culture, so sometimes you'll find that he'll have episodes dedicated to TV shows, movies, reality TV, etc. so I listen to those episodes as well.
  6. Snap Judgment.  This is one of my favorite NPR podcasts.  I love listening to people's stories and often find myself wondering if I have a story that would be interesting enough to share with the world.
  7. Homemade Stories.  This is another storytelling podcast, but with one storyteller, Shannon Cason.  Most of his stories are about his real life experiences.  You'll love the way he tells his stories.
  8. Off the Rails with Josh Wolf and Sarah Colonna.  This is another podcast where you've got two friends who sit around and talk about current events and other (mostly) random stuff.  They are both comedians (you might recognize them from Chelsea Lately), so it's not boring and stuffy at all.  It's also not PG, so if you've got sensitive ears, don't listen.
  9. Jalen & Jacoby.  Yet another ESPN podcast.  Being a former NBA player, Jalen often talks about NBA related topics, but the two guys will also discuss other sports topics as well as pop culture.
  10. The Read.  You'll love Kid Fury and Crissle's commentary on the latest pop culture foolishness in this podcast.  You might have noticed that I love podcasts where it feels like you're sitting around cutting up with your best friends.  This is definitely that podcast.  This is also not for sensitive ears.
  11. This American Life.  If you don't know this podcast, where have you been?  This is storytelling at its finest.
  12. Porchlight Storytelling Series.  Another great storytelling podcast out of San Francisco, where different people come up to the open mic and tell their story.  It's always very interesting.
  13. The Moth Podcast.  Storytelling again.  Love it.
  14. Pumped Podcast.  If you're into Vanderpump Rules on Bravo, then this is a great podcast to check out.  They sometimes have people from the cast on the show and even when they don't, it's just fun to hear people who also love the hot mess that is Vanderpump Rules talk about the show.
  15. Myleik Teele's Podcast.  The founder of CurlBox has this great podcast where she gives business and life advice in a very real way.  And the podcasts are usually short and sweet and to the point.  You'll like it.  (Thanks to Tasha of Imperfect Concepts for putting me onto this podcast recently.)
  16. Joyce Meyer TV Audio Podcast.  Listen.  I don't know about you, but sometimes in the middle of the workday I need to hear The Word.  You feel me?
  17. Joel Osteen Ministries Podcast.  See #16.
