I'm thinking about taking a weekend getaway to Washington, D.C. before the summer is over. I used to live in the area, but it's been about 3 years since I've visited. If you've never visited D.C. in the summer, let me warn you – it gets HOT. Since it's been so long since I've visited, I want to act like a tourist and cram a lot into the weekend. I want to spend a day in the heart of D.C visting some old favorites like the U.S. Capitol (nevermind that I used to work on the Hill and know more about the building and history than the average person), the White House (nevermind that I've actually dined on the lawn with a former President), the Smithsonian Museums (the National Museum of American History is still my favorite), and the U.S. Supreme Court building (the lawyer in me is always excited about being on the steps of the Supreme Court). I also want to go to a few places that I've never visited before such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the Newseum.
Besides playing tourist, I also want to do some shopping and dining with my sister and friends who live in the area, and of course, I want to enjoy the D.C. nightlife. When I thought about packing for this weekend getaway to D.C. (I plan outfits for trips weeks in advance), I knew that Athleta would have some pieces that would be great for everything that I want to do. This black Tee Racerback Dress is perfect for a night out with the girls. Whether we do happy hour, dinner, or the club scene, I will look hot while staying cool. And the great thing about this dress is that it is lightweight and breathable, so you could easily dress it down by pairing it with sneakers or flats and maybe a denim jacket in the fall, for a day of sightseeing. I've even thrown a fitted tee over it and worn it as a skirt. What you can't see in the above photos is that I'm wearing the Athleta Double Dare Tie-Dye Bra underneath for support.

This second Athleta look will also be perfect for a day of sightseeing or hanging out with friends. Athleta's apparel is made for fitness, working out, and an active lifestyle, so I know that it will keep me cool during the daytime. When you first see this Stripe Swagger Skort, you immediately think "tennis." Well, I don't play tennis, but I've always loved tennis skirts and really wanted to style this skirt for an everyday look. By wearing it with the Chi Dot Tank and a vest from my closet, I think I achieved my goal. Oh, and the best thing about this Chi tank is that it has lasting odor control (it's UNSTINKABLE) and will keep me dry during those hot summer D.C. days. This look can also be paired with flats or sneakers for all of my walking around D.C.
Since it's been a while since I've been to D.C., what are some new places that you recommend I visit? Also, do you have any weekend getaways planned before the end of summer?
