This week's post should probably be titled What WE Wore, because it's the Family Reunion Edition! I had a great time back home with my family! The trip was much too short.
My US Airways flight out of Charlotte was delayed about 40 minutes, so I arrived at Huntsville International Airport after 7 pm CT. My sister picked me up and we headed straight to the mixer. We had a sports theme for the mixer – everyone was to wear their favorite team's apparel. I, of course, wore my Saints apparel, my sister (Zuri) wore Ravens, and my Mom (Mollie) and stepdad (Brent) wore Auburn. Check out the AFC North photo of my sister (Ravens), cousin Norman (Steelers), and my Aunt Edna and Uncle Bo (Browns). We are definitely a sports-loving family.
The next day everyone wore the purple Family Reunion t-shirt (notice how my sister and I altered our shirts) to gather at McFarland Park in Florence. The river was very high and the Park Rangers let us know that we had to evacuate the park, because it would be flooded in about an hour. So, we packed up the food and headed back to the Country Club where we had the previous night's event.
Sunday, we attended the church where my Mom's cousin is the pastor. After church, we all went to Legend's Steakhouse in Florence for lunch. While we waited to be seated, my Mom and I took a stroll through downtown Florence. It had been years since I'd spent any time downtown.
I particularly wanted to walk by Billy Reid. If you didn't know, the flagship store is in my hometown. This is where he lives and designs the pieces for his collections.
After lunch, I had my Mom drive by the park downtown (Florence is also the birthplace of W.C. Handy, the Father of the Blues) and by the University of North Alabama. We parked and got out to see UNA's mascots, Leo and Una.
After that it was time to head back to Huntsville to catch my flight back to Charlotte. I'm so glad that I was able to go home for the Family Reunion and I look forward to the next one!
