If you haven't noticed, the blog posts have been fewer in number the last couple of months and there are a couple of reasons for that. One, I want to be able to bring you quality posts, rather than a larger quantity of posts. As I stated in the 2012 In Review posts, my favorite ones are the personal posts – those filled with pictures and details from things I've experienced and events I've attended. Expect to see lots more of those in 2013 (and not all will be football or fashion related. I am Blitz And Glam so humor me as I bring more random, everyday posts, particularly with the off-season just around the corner). The other reason is that I've rediscovered my love for reading! I've always LOVED reading, but unfortunately, over the last few years, I haven't made much time for it. Two of my favorite authors released new books in 2012 and I hadn't read them, so I decided it was time to pick them up and read them. Also, I recently read about a book that was described as the The Devil Wears Prada for bloggers, so I immediately added it to my reading list. So, here's what I've been reading (the above photos also show my attempt at a messy bun minus a comb or brush – my edges definitely could have used a brush):
Emily Giffin is one of the two favorite authors that I mentioned above. If you've seen the movie, Something Borrowed, then you're familiar with her work; it was based on her first novel. This book is about a teenager who was adopted as a baby and in a longing to find where she belongs, she searches out her birth parents and uncovers several lies and secrets. As much as I love all of Emily's books, this one might be my favorite so far (but then again, I think I say that with each of her books that I read). I did not want this book to end and I'm almost hoping that she will write a follow-up to this book so I can find out what happens to the characters after the last page.
Sophie Kinsella is my other favorite author. I actually recently read one of her other books that has been out a while that I hadn't read, Mini Shopaholic, the latest in her series of Shopaholic books (which was also made into a movie, but the books are so much better than the movie). As much as I love her books, Mini Shopaholic was probably my least favorite (I had actually attempted to read it once before, but couldn't get through it). So, I'll tell you about I've Got Your Number, which I read just before Mini Shopaholic. This book is about a woman who is engaged, but finds herself in a texting relationship with a businessman as a result of finding his old assistant's cell phone. As you can imagine, things start to get a little sticky in her love life. One thing I should mention about Sophie, if you aren't familiar with her, is that she is British so you'll often see what I call "British speak" in her novels, which makes it even more fun.
I'm currently reading Sad Desk Salad by Jessica Grose, the book that I mentioned above that was called The Devil Wear Prada for bloggers. I've just started this book, so I'll let you know how I like it. If it's really good, I'll do a separate blog post on it.
What are you currently reading? Do you have any book suggestions for me?
