The NFL recently released an image of tennis champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Serena Williams starring in this season's apparel campaign aimed at female football fans. Serena, who is a Miami Dolphins fan AND a limited partner in the team, is shown wearing the graphic tee with a black Nike jacket and she looks amazing. I love these ads because I'm all about a woman showing her personal style and enjoying football her way.
"Forty-five percent of fans are female and that continues to grow," says Tracey Bleczinski, vice president of NFL consumer products. "We do have something for everyone, and this campaign aims to communicate that if you are living and wearing football, you can do it every day, year-round." Suzanne Johnson, wife of New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, serves as an Ambassador for NFL Women's Apparel. "The female fan looks not only at the game, but the whole stadium experience," she says. "I have girlfriends that come with me to games on a weekly basis, and they'll ask, 'What are you wearing?'"
She adds, "Women are still women." Yes, we are and I applaud the NFL for its efforts in marketing to women like me. This ad will be featured in magazines beginnng this September.
