I was contacted by a member of the Baltimore Charm, a team in the Lingerie Football League (LFL), about my interest in covering them this season. Since I've never watched a game, I thought that I should do a little research and learn a bit about the league.
Mission Statement: "The Lingerie Football League has become the Ultimate Fan-Driven Live Sports Phenomenon – Blending Action, Impact and Beauty."
There are two conferences, the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference, with 6 teams in each conference.
Each team consists of 14 players on the active roster and 6 inactive players. During game play, there are 7 offensive players on the field: 1 quarterback, 2 running backs, 1 down-linewoman, and 3 wide receivers; and 7 defensive players on the field: 2 down-linewomen, 1 linebacker, 2 cornerbacks, and 2 safeties. There are two 17 minute halves with a 15 minute halftime. In the event of a tie, there is an 8 minute sudden death overtime. During game play, every 4 downs must include 2 passing plays and 2 rushing plays.
The field is 50 yards long and 30 yards wide, with 8 yard end zones. A touchdown is worth 6 points, but there are no field goals (and no punting either). A conversion run or pass is worth 1 point from the 2 yard line and 2 points from the 5 yard line and a safety is worth 2 points.
The 2011-2012 season runs from August until February, ending with Lingerie Bowl IX in Las Vegas on February 5, 2012. The season kickoffs off Friday, August 26 at 9 PM (CT) with the Minnesota Valkyrie taking on the Green Bay Chill, and you can catch a live game Friday nights on MTV2.
The LFL: True Fantasy Football.
