Saturday afternoon I attended the Carolina Panthers Fan Fest at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Being on the sidelines, I was able to get a good look at the number of fans in attendance–all 15,000+. The fans were excited and eager to see their Carolina Panthers hit the field at Bank of America stadium for the first time this season. Not only did they get a preview of what their team is bringing, but the team got a chance to see and feel the excitement of the fans. If that many fans showed up for Fan Fest, then I guarantee the seats of the stadium will be filled (more than last season) during the regular season.
The number 1 question(s) that I'm getting from readers and followers is, "How do the quarterbacks look? Does one stand out more than the other?" My answers: They both look pretty good. Cam stands out because of his size, his athleticism, and his confidence on the field (and being the number 1 overall draft pick naturally puts him in the spotlight). Honestly, I've seen them both do great things on the field and I've seen a few bloopers. They've only been in training camp a little over a week now and I expect that over the next few weeks, we will see one emerge as the clear front runner for the starting job. The great thing is that this quarterback competition will only make them better as players and as a team.
The most exciting play from Saturday's practice was Cam connecting with tight end Gary Barnidge for a 70-yard touchdown. Cam later followed up by running the ball several yards, which gave the fans another peek at what all this quarterback can do. I expect we will see more great plays like these from Cam throughout camp and into the regular season.
Check out footage from practice, hear Coach Rivera's thoughts on the quarterback competition, and hear what Cam has to say about what the fans mean to him. Stay tuned for more footage from the Carolina Panthers Training Camp.
